David Byrne might not be one of those artists who exist outside the mainstream spotlight — well known for his years fronting Talking Heads and for evocative solo endeavors like American Utopia and his long-running collaboration with Brian Eno — but his recent string of collaborations with artists lesser known to most American ears has quietly become some of the most interesting work of his career, and with “¿Cuál Es La Razón?”, released April 28 alongside Mexican Institute of Sound, we are introduced to a new world: the world of Natalia Lafourcade.
A multi-Grammy award winner, holding the record for the most Latin Grammy Awards won by a female artist, and with a career spanning over twenty years and ten studio albums, Lafourcade is no unknown herself. Her style ranges from alt-pop and rock to bolero and Latin jazz, attracting fans worldwide beyond just Latin music. While she has played with symphonic orchestrations at Carnegie Hall, her shows are typically more intimate and her performance strong enough that she can appear on stage with just her voice and an acoustic guitar before her band joins her to fill out the sound.

Natalia’s Cancionera tour runs through late June, with dates in Seattle, Portland, and two nights at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Find her at natalialafourcade.com.
