On Monday, October 12, Adam Hambrick at Bluebird on 3rd showed what his hits sound like when he sings them himself. He co-wrote “Somebody Else Will” for Justin Moore and “How Not To” for Dan + Shay, so the songwriter round is familiar territory for him.
The 12:30 p.m. round at Bluebird on 3rd, the Bluebird Cafe’s songwriter format at 3rd and Lindsley, put three writers on three stools: Hambrick, Jenn Schott and Mark Irwin. The spotlight moved from writer to writer, and Hambrick brought a full set of his own. He played “Rockin’ All Night Long” and “Oxford,” plus Justin Moore’s “Somebody Else Will.” He also sang harmony and played guitar on a few of Schott’s songs, including “Two Lanes of Freedom,” giving that song a fuller, warmer lift.
“Rockin’ All Night Long” is the 2018 debut single that set his solo career in motion. He also performed “What Kind of Lonely,” a new song he co-wrote with Brett Young, Charles Kelley and James Michael Robbins, due for release soon. Hearing it in a small room, before it reaches streaming, gave the crowd a preview of a song many listeners have yet to hear.
