New Music Roundup: Caroline Rose, Mountain Grass Unit, and More

New music roundup October highlights Caroline Rose‘s new album which arrived Friday, and it sits alongside a handful of fresh singles that stretch from bluegrass to a German-language piano collaboration to a live take on a Dolly Parton classic. Here is what landed this week.

Caroline Rose, Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall

The album came out October 23 on SUCK Records, the label Rose launched for this release. It is the first project on the imprint, and John Congleton produced it. The record follows Year of the Slug, which Rose made on a phone and sold only on vinyl and Bandcamp in 2025.

The album opens with “Yip Yip Yow,” a song Rose had performed live for about a decade before releasing a studio version in May. “Chow Mein” served as the second single ahead of the release. Other tracks include “Valery (please don’t be mad at me)” and “Cement Head.”

Mountain Grass Unit and Hayes Carll, Railroad River Junction

Birmingham, Alabama’s Mountain Grass Unit pairs bluegrass precision with jam-band looseness. Their 2024 EP, Runnin’ From Trouble, was recorded at Nashville’s Hartland Studios and produced by Mike Harris of Old Crow Medicine Show. This new single brings in Hayes Carll as a collaborator.

Bebe Stockwell, Bad at Goodbyes

Bebe Stockwell released “Bad at Goodbyes” as a single this week. The track puts her guitar and voice front and center.

beslik and Chilly Gonzales, 100 TAGE SOMMER

Pianist and producer Chilly Gonzales joins beslik on this single, sung in German. The title translates to “100 Days of Summer.”

Molly Tuttle, 9 to 5 (Live)

Molly Tuttle’s live version of “9 to 5” recasts the Dolly Parton hit from 1980 with her own band and her bluegrass-rooted guitar playing. It is a short, direct way to hear a well-known song in a new room.
