The Oregon-based band, Fruition, hit the Americana scene back in 2012 with a memorable mix of banjo, mandolin, and strong harmonies. They soon broke through the with their hit song “Mountain Annie” off their second album, Just One Of Them Nights. Written by Jay Cobb Anderson and released in 2013, it remains their most-streamed song for good reason. It is the first song in their catalog I turn to whenever I am I need of an Americana fix. True, its lyrics tell a story of a man with a broken heart trying to forget someone, but unable to shake finding her name in smoke and rain, but is has a melody you can’t shake.
“Oh Well”, the first taste of their forthcoming eighth album Something More, is sort of a shrug of the shoulders; hitting the bottom of self-abusive behavior; crying over a lost love; having an always going to lose feeling — stuck at the bottom of the preverbal well but not letting it drag you down.
Make sure you give a listen to Mountain Anne, too.
